Keep this weekend available: August 27-29, 2010
Lord of Life members first participated in Compassion Weekend activities in 2007. Compassion Weekend is an opportunity for members of Lord of Life to participate in volunteerism throughout the community. It was the brainchild of the Mission Committee and follows the Mission, Vision and Core Values of our church, most specifically “to reach people with the love of Jesus Christ” and to empower everyone “to share, teach and give what each has received.” Some of the activities from 2007 included landscaping, serving and preparing food, organizing a food pantry, building, and cleaning. Some of the projects in 2007 took place at Faith Mission, Community Kitchen, First English Parish Hall and Community Center and Lutheran Social Services.
Right now the CW 2010 leadership committee is working on contacting locations that we might assist and publicity to help you as members of Lord of Life become aware of the dates and think of how you might want to contribute your time. CW 2010 will take place the weekend of August 27 – 29th. As in 2007, we encourage all members of Lord of Life to volunteer any time during those days at one of the project centers whether as an individual, family, group of friends, or a CAST group. We would like to thank Robert Zahn for volunteering to be the head of the Steering Committee. Also, thanks to Scott Flading and Adam Forbes for chairing the Projects Committee and to Bob Price and Jody Schuld for chairing the Connect Committee. Thanks to the following who have volunteered their time to work on the Leadership committee: Katie Anderson, Bill Birlidis, Ron Johnston, Gretchen Lively, Michelle Maghes, Allison and Paul Westrick, Alli Woods, and Andrea Young. And a final thank you to members of the CW 2007 leadership team, the current Mission Team, Pastor Bethany Wallace, and Pastor Fred Wiese for all of your support. If you would like to help plan this weekend, please contact one of the members of the Steering Committee or call the church office. Look for more information to come on CW 2010; mark your calendars NOW!
