Prayer Shawl Ministry

They may look like balls of yarn, but they are just waiting...

...to be knitted and crocheted into shawls,

...prayed over in a group of caring community,

...and given to people in need of comfort in our congregation.

Meaningful worship in community that helps you grow closer to God...

An approach to faith that's more complex than simple black-and-white rules...

A desire to grow in discipleship together, knowing that no one has all the answers, but everyone has wisdom...

These are just a few of the things you will find when you worship Jesus Christ at Lord of Life.

Music

Music is one of those amazing gifts given to us by God.  It connects us emotionally in a way almost nothing else can.

At Lord of Life, we know that EVERYONE has musical gifts (even if that gift is sometimes the ability to appreciate what others have shared).

Helping Hands Quilters

Do you have an interest in quilting?  Have you ever wanted to learn how to quilt with fun-loving women who already know the joy of quilting?  You could bring a friend or family member along.  We are exploring the possibility of starting a new ministry called Helping Hands Quilters.  Participants would gather monthly to create quilts that share Christ’s love and comfort with others.

These quilts would be distributed through organizations such as Faith Mission and Lutheran World Relief, those who feed and care for the homeless, or given to those we know to be experiencing long-term illness within our congregation.  If you have an interest in such a ministry, please sign up at the Care and Prayer table in the Narthex by March 14.  Further questions may be addressed to Fran McMichael.

Exploring Lord of Life

exploring_lolThe next series will begin on Sunday, March 14, 2010.  It's our membership course... but it's really about discovery; exploring why this church exists and whether God is calling you to join us on the journey of discipleship!  The course is led by a team of ministry leaders at Lord of Life and is designed around dialogue.  No commitment or knowledge is necessary to attend.

Congregation Council Elections: April 25

On Sunday, April 25, 2010, the congregation will elect three persons, each to a  three year term, to Congregation Council.  Nominees are being selected by the 2010 Nominating Committee, chosen at the Annual Congregational meeting this past November.  Should they call on you, please prayerfully consider this ministry.

Any two voting members interested in nominating any active member may do so in writing to Congregational President, Jeff Ramm (Bylaws 2:03), with the signatures of the nominee and the two voting members, by April 11.  A list of nominees will be in members’ mailboxes in early April.

Easter Egg Hunt & Carnival

Mark your calendar’s now for Lord of Life’s annual Easter Egg Hunt and Carnival, which is planned for Saturday, April 3rd!  This year’s event will be hosted by Lord of Life’s 2009-2010 Affirmation Class and their parents.  Many volunteers are still needed to help with this activity – including welcoming guests, running simple games, donating candy and filling & hiding hundreds of eggs!  Please contact Kendra or Schelley Pierce if you would like to volunteer.

Planning Special Music for Easter Sunday

The Adult Choir will be singing “Thy Will Be Done,” by Craig Courtney on Good Friday and would like to invite anyone to sing along.

Extra singers are also needed for Easter Sunday in ALL CHOIRS (we are singing a combined song with children and adults).

Please contact Marylou Schmidt for a CD and music for either of these opportunities.

Lesson and Latte

Bring your coffee and join us for Lesson & Latte on Sundays at 10:15 in Room 202.

We’re discussing Under the Overpass:  A Journey of Faith on the Streets of America, by Mike Yankoski.  Mike's life went from upper-middle class plush to scum-of-the-earth repulsive overnight.  By his own choice.  From Washington DC to San Diego, Mike and his traveling companion Sam journeyed as homeless men for five months.  Not as a project, or even in response to a dare, but because he needed to know if his faith in God was real -- if he could actually be the Christian he said he was if he was apart from the comforts he'd always known.  So, with only a bag on his back, a guitar in his hand, and Sam by his side, he set out ... and returned a different man.

This series is designed so that participants can drop in when they're able or attend every week -- whichever works best!  Books will be provided.  Join us as we read and discuss Mike's unusual, captivating and challenging story!

CAST (Caring and Sharing Together) Small Groups

Compassion Weekend 2010 Needs You!

Keep this weekend available: August 27-29, 2010

Lord of Life members first participated in Compassion Weekend activities in 2007.  Compassion Weekend is an opportunity for members of Lord of Life to participate in volunteerism throughout the community.  It was the brainchild of the Mission Committee and follows the Mission, Vision and Core Values of our church, most specifically “to reach people with the love of Jesus Christ” and to empower everyone “to share, teach and give what each has received.”  Some of the activities from 2007 included landscaping, serving and preparing food, organizing a food pantry, building, and cleaning.  Some of the projects in 2007 took place at Faith Mission, Community Kitchen, First English Parish Hall and Community Center and Lutheran Social Services.

Our Values

The authority for our ministry is founded in Jesus Christ, the head of the Church which is the Body of Christ on earth.  An elected Congregation Council provides administrative authority; our called pastors provide the spiritual authority of the Office of Word and Sacrament Ministry.
